About the Image(s)

I was in a retail store on one of the South American Islands. I was fascinated by the orange glowing illuminated display of bottles of honey. There were smaller bottles (looked like the ones we find in the states) which were labeled “tupelo honey.” But there was also honey in larger wine shaped bottles which were labeled “acacia honey.”

I photographed the bottles with a wide-angle lens at 15 mm, 1/25, f6.3 and ISO at 400. While I liked the image, it was monotonous. So, in Photoshop I change the color so all the bottles had the same orange color. Then I cropped out the items below the bottom shelf and also some from both side of the image. Then I converted the image to mono and then through the use of layers allowed some of the bottles to appear in their orange color.

Your adaption of the bright original into this mixture of mono and colour works well. You have chosen just enough colour and positioned it well.   Posted: 12/11/2020 10:07:31

Beautiful and sharp image . The color is terrific but think I would have done three of each???   Posted: 12/11/2020 13:31:54

Mark, thanks for your suggestions. I've revised my image a lot and now have 3 large bottles in the image but not all in a row.   Posted: 12/19/2020 07:18:25

Nicely caught shot with a tight arrangement. The selective colouring is eye-catching. You have worked hard on the processing and it has paid off!   Posted: 12/13/2020 02:32:12

I really enjoyed the idea here and i think your post-production execution is great. While there might be multiple ways of presenting this, I like the random selection of red bottles with just a touch of yellow. You might want to think about what happens when you have or words in an image as the viewer will always try to read this. While I have no idea how you would do it but it would be nice to have one clear label to focus on.   Posted: 12/13/2020 05:07:00

Jen, thanks for your suggestion. I went back to the original and revised everything included your suggestion of being able to read the labels (not real clear in the following small JPEG image).   Posted: 12/19/2020 07:21:05

This is a really neat idea which works well. I just wonder whether fewer bottles might work better - perhaps just one or two. It's given me ideas for my photography, anyway, so thanks.   Posted: 12/18/2020 10:44:50
