M-S by Mark Southard, FPSA

October 2018 - M-S

About the Image(s)

Stayed at the Sheraton hotel and that is where the S came from. The M came from the Mc Donald sign across the street.

I taught a class at the conference on Creative Phone -ography and this was an example of creating a sign or logo with one's initials .............in this case , mine or M S

check my comments to you in group 20...This is an excellent example of "seeing", which many people would overlook and not see the reflection...they are everywhere, if only one looks for them...   Posted: 10/10/2018 16:49:19

First you need inspiration about what you want to achieve, then collect the various elements. But the real skill is combining them all so effectively which you have achieved. Not an i-phone user myself, but of course any camera could have collected the reqiuired images.   Posted: 10/11/2018 05:47:23

Simple and effective. The muted colours suit the calligraphic subject well. Its definitely an M&S, but that is using a third multinational icon.   Posted: 10/13/2018 04:10:45

Inspired fun: coming up with your initials like that. It does resemble a reflection, but my guess is that it's a composite given that you used it as an example in a class. I really like the way you have the sizes just right for the arches to encompass the building and have them lined up right with the corners and the "S" almost centered. This creative stuff could is really neat.   Posted: 10/13/2018 21:41:56

This doesn't quite work for me. The arches "M" is too large in relation to the Sheraton "S" and the background building muddies things up a bit. I'd love to see a rendition without the building and the "S" larger.

I realize the purpose of this was to illustrate capturing one's initials in one's environment with your smartphone, and that was done well. Beyond that context, the composition could be stronger is all I'm trying to say.   Posted: 10/18/2018 13:16:54

Very clever. I am not a fan of browns but we'll let that go by.   Posted: 10/28/2018 08:43:39
