Pine Hills First Snow I by Joe Kennedy

November 2020 - Pine Hills First Snow I

About the Image(s)

On Halloween Day we had our first snowfall in the Northeast. Since I have been out walking each day, i headed off to the local cemetery for my mileage. The trees were beautifully covered with snow. I did have my cellphone and out it to good use several times along the walk. Next time I’ll bring gloves!

Cellphone settings were f/1.8 at 1/720 seconds and an ISO of 25. Ran though NIK and Luminar for post-processing

I'm so jealous. As an 18 year Floridian I so miss these kind of images. I often think of the one image I missed on a clear very cold post rain day that in my head I named "Ice Forest" but alas! I did not have a camera with me and that was before cell phone days.

Anyhow, I love this image and will eternally jealous!   Posted: 11/06/2020 13:22:38

Your phone camera has captured this well. A beautiful delicate tracery of branches and snow. I also like the dark forbidding sky. No other suggestions - I just enjoyed it as it is.   Posted: 11/11/2020 03:36:45

A very nice picture of the first snow fall. The snow on the trees accentuates the bare branches. I like the menacing sky top left.   Posted: 11/14/2020 06:51:14

I like how the sky and tree on the right edge frame the center and provide a sense of depth. I wonder how it would look with the brightness of snow in the lower left corner decreased, and the center brightened to emphasize center of interest.   Posted: 11/16/2020 10:25:35

Great photo. I like the angle of the trees across the photo. Hmm...maybe I should just get a new iPhone and not a camera. No just kidding!   Posted: 11/19/2020 19:53:27

THX, Joe. You didn't post this month. You do realize you only get three cuts from our group so use them wisely:)   Posted: 11/20/2020 07:50:23

Didn't know about the 3 cuts. Will be more diligent in the future.   Posted: 11/20/2020 08:27:50

A beautiful phone shot. Perhaps a little more contrast/detail in the clouds. Also, perhaps try a black/white conversion.   Posted: 11/22/2020 10:18:04
