Chevy motif by John Hackett

October 2020 - Chevy motif

About the Image(s)

This picture if you can call it that, started out as a straight image of the motif and artwork on the bonnet(Hood) of a customised Chevrolet. Do not ask me what model, probably from the 1950's. I played around with it a bit and then I think I used a pencil sketch tool in Corel Painter Essentials to end up with this.

I like the texture, symmetry and the graphic art flavor of the image.   Posted: 10/06/2020 19:59:36

This is a difficult image to comment on! In some ways it's less a photograph and more a sketch reminiscent in some ways of a cave drawing. It's always interesting to see what turns up when you experiment with software options. But with this one I'm not sure which bits work best or if they all work together. It will be interesting to see what the others in the group think.   Posted: 10/07/2020 02:24:48

John,I'm with Peter on this one. There are some post-processing tools that create interesting results, I don't think this pencil sketch worked particularly well with this image. Most of the car decals/emblems have a character to them, I think other tools may have been a better choice. But, that's why these choices are put there - experiment!   Posted: 10/09/2020 11:43:19

The Chevy logo on the bottom helped me to understand what I was looking at. I like the idea of what you did with it but I feel due to the age of the hood logo not many would know what it is. I agree with Joe that maybe some other post processing tools would make it standout more.

Not much I can add to the other comments. It is always interesting to experiment with different software tools and find some surprising results. Being a car guy (40 years with General Motors), I would have preferred to see some amazing detail in this old hood ornament.   Posted: 10/22/2020 11:41:08
