Hampton Court Windows and Chimneys by Peter Elliston

January 2020 - Hampton Court Windows and Chimneys

About the Image(s)

This was taken on a visit to Henry V111’s Hampton Court Palace last October. The palace was great to look around but what really struck me was the light coming through some windows and the very distinctive chimney shapes on the buildings across the way. You were not supposed to take pictures in there but I asked the guide if takimg the light on the windows was OK. She was thinking about it when I took the shot anyway and she said ‘I’ll pretend I didn’t see that!’ So, here it is. I like the light and the shapes and the colours.

Taken ona Fuzji XT1 1/60 @ f5.6 with an ISO of 800.

The light and shadows work well together. The chimneys play well into the vertical character of the windows. The sky looks grainy but that could just be dirty windows.   Posted: 01/04/2020 13:17:01

Interesting tryptic well composed and exposed. The making of a three is very effective. Has a kind of canvas feel.   Posted: 01/04/2020 17:56:30

I like the composition and the ethereal feel the reflections in the window (and perhaps screen) and the modest contrast gives. The colors work well together.   Posted: 01/06/2020 08:09:54

The Almost Forbidden fruit, er shot! Glad you were thinking ahead and got the grab before she had time to think on it. With cell phone cameras there are a lot of "forbidden" images taken now.

I do like the three panels here. Your cropping suits the overall impression of the threesome. Nice tonal range throughout the scene.   Posted: 01/06/2020 12:22:45

For a picture taken on the hoof so to speak this has worked well. The golden light of the frame contrasts well with the subtle building beyond. Those chimneys are a delight.Good cropping, and the graininess suits the subject.   Posted: 01/12/2020 05:27:20
