November 2019 - Leopard

About the Image(s)

This image of a leopard was taken at the St Louis Zoo during my 2017 visit. I was struck by the magnificent design and coloring in his coat and his very calm and regal facial expression.
Technical: 1/800 sec, f/5.3, ISO800, 200mm.

Regal kitty. Detail and mood nicely caught. Somehow I long for eye contact but that is a minor quibble. It is a splendid animal presentation. Vague sense of the boredom that often comes with captivity (or into the mind of the beholder).   Posted: 11/06/2019 15:50:17

Splendidly 'captured' . Difficult to get decent zoo shots because of man-made things but this does it. Would agree about the lack of eye contact but the detail of the animal's coat is really well caught.   Posted: 11/07/2019 08:07:05

Beautiful image of a beautiful animal. Saturation and contrast are well done. I wonder how it would look cropped a little from the right to bring more attention to the leopard's head.

Well done, Glenn! I think the vivid colors of the big cat are further emphasized by the fairly neutral background. I have gone back a few times with Sheldon's idea on cropping. It may add to the impact as the body looks somewhat "stretched" out. Just my three cents (inflation has increased opinions up from two cents).   Posted: 11/11/2019 10:39:22

A regal cat tastefully treated. The detail in the patterns on the cats coat and the crispness of those whiskers appeal to me. Yes a bit of eye contact would be nice in some ways, but I think this shows the leopards indifference to its spectators.   Posted: 11/14/2019 04:07:37
