About the Image(s)
“Mirror, Mirror” was a model set-up at our annual NECCC Conference at UMASS Amherst. I watched other photographers setting up for their three images and noticed the angle I wanted to be at. Taken at f/8 @ 1/100 second with studio lights. I felt going monochrome helped to lessen the impact of the glitz and colorful outfit. I wanted the shot to be about her pose in the mirror.

Absolutely beautiful. One of these years maybe I'll get back to NECC   Posted: 08/02/2019 20:04:54

Thx, Bev. I'll try to get back there as well. It's been about three years since my last conference there.

This works very well in mono. You have chosen a good angle to get this reflection spot on. I also like the rim lighting on the mirror. The only thing I'd ask is - did you consider any adjustments to the model's skin which is not ' model smooth'? Airbrushing is a controversial subject so maybe leaving as it is was the best choice. The lighting is excellent.   Posted: 08/05/2019 06:11:19

Striking image. I like how the image in the mirror is sharp, but the "live" person is not - keeps my focus on the mirror. I think the texture on the models skin is a good fit to the high contrast, sharp overall feel of the image. I'd only consider smoothing her skin if she was a friend. Might try cropping from the left, even into the picture frame a bit.   Posted: 08/05/2019 13:06:14
Like this one much. I reacted to the skin issues also but decided it should stay. For me I would have liked to see he real person as sharp as the reflection, but it's a fine setup and result.   Posted: 08/05/2019 17:17:45

Sorry Dick, I disagree. The image for me is all about the mirror image and I think sharpening the real person might wind up offering two points of interest   Posted: 08/10/2019 13:03:20

I like this just the way it is. I think converting to monochrome was a good choice, it simplifies the subject. I also like the expression on her face.   Posted: 08/11/2019 07:56:48

A fine composition with excellent monochrome processing which is a perfect choice for this image. To me, the skin texture is a little distracting and some smoothing might help the overall imapact.   Posted: 08/11/2019 12:42:38
