Bahamas Quartet by Dick Perkins

August 2019 - Bahamas Quartet

About the Image(s)

This was a display in a lobby area of the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. It was a challenge to try to get all four of the elements represented and do justice to all of them. Ultimately, not having a big ladder or a drone, I gave up and just allowed the fourth image to peek through. It is just an interest shot, not a great photo achievement.

Dick, I can see why this artwork caught you eye so that you had to pull out the camera. Been there looking at a potential image trying to find the right angle to capture it. I think the ladder would have resolved your proper angle issue. Some distractions here and there but you mentioned it was not a great photo achievement so I'll leave further critiques to you   Posted: 08/04/2019 10:18:06

A stunning display item so I can see why you had to photograph it. I guess this is meant to be four sea horses? The gold is well captured but I guess it wasn't real gold - or was it?!!   Posted: 08/05/2019 06:14:20

Beautiful piece of artwork. You didn't specify lens focal length. I wonder whether coming in close with a 16mm or wider lens would make the artwork more prominent vs the background?   Posted: 08/05/2019 13:10:24

To Joe: Thanks.
To Peter: Don't know if real gold but would surmise it is a brass alloy.
To Sheldon: Not much room to step back here, but shot with a 28-300 lens just enough to get all in except the very tops and bottoms. Your suggestion is good but I chose to put it in the local context.   Posted: 08/05/2019 17:12:11

It sounds like a slightly trick situation in which to get a picture. Given that you have achieved your objective. Personally I would have concentrated on one of the elements, but that is me.   Posted: 08/11/2019 07:59:53

A stunning art piece and a huge challenge to photograph in a confined space with fixed lighting. I think you did well under the circumstances.   Posted: 08/11/2019 12:46:46
