Low Tide by John Hackett

August 2019 - Low Tide

About the Image(s)

I kind of liked the boat at low tide in the creek, contrasted against the grasses and the sky. I thought conversion to mono also suited the scene.

Wall hanger, John!

Like the layers within the image; foreground of the grasses and the boat; middle of the taller grasses; and the top of the sky with clouds. Boat is extremely sharp. Overall pleasing image!   Posted: 08/04/2019 10:14:30

A very pleasing image and well suited to mono. Good composition. And yes, a pleasing image to display.   Posted: 08/05/2019 06:06:51

I like the monochrome, and you've toned it well from white clouds to black shadows without blocking or blowout. Only two things you might consider. There are small bright objects on the portside gunwale that are distracting. Could they be cloned out, or darkened? Also, I think negative space in the top right corner puts the image a little out of balance. Adding a cloud there might help.   Posted: 08/05/2019 13:00:57

I am very fond of this one. All that has been said is right on. As for the upper right, maybe leaving it open draws a diagonal between clouds and boat. I think I would like the tops of the grasses sharper, but it is a great scene.   Posted: 08/05/2019 17:15:17

Thanks for your comments. I had not noticed the white objects in the boat.   Posted: 08/11/2019 07:54:24

I like this image especially in the monochrome format you chose. It has a sense of restfulness and is pleasing to view. I agree with others that the white objects are a little distracting and perhaps a little cropping from the right and top would be useful.   Posted: 08/11/2019 12:38:40
