About the Image(s)

Taken 2022 4/12 Death Valley, USA. Dawn

I had to depart on the drive from our hotel while it was dark. I took photos over an hour to get the best lighting before sunrise. You can see the valley floor that is below sea level. Dawn sky color. Canon EOS 5DS R Camera with Canon EF28-135 f/3.5-5.6. 85mm, f/6.7, 1/30 sec, ISO 200. Tripod. NIK HDR Efex Pro 2.and Topaz sharpen AI, if I remember correctly. Lightroom export sharpening.

Interesting image. The image is sharp and has good textures. To me it looks like a painting after the post processing. The extra blue color in the background is a distration. I tried with colors and hue. The resulting image is given below.   Posted: 03/22/2023 01:15:34

Almost looks like a colored pencil drawing with the effect that was used. It's neat and works! The only comment I have is that the pink might be a bit strong. When I look at it I'm very much drawn the the skyline rather than the mountain.   Posted: 03/22/2023 15:06:31

Thanks for the good advice. They would make the image more attractive and score better if that is the goal but it would be false. I did not change the color hue of the sky. The NIC HDR brings out the subtitle colors. All the colors at Death Valley are subtitle and after a day or two they become more apparent. The image as I presented it is what it looked like in my recollection. The sky is how it was perceived to the West at morning twilight, opposite to the sun.   Posted: 03/22/2023 21:38:42

Nice, peaceful landscape. I just guess the reason for hallo effect. It is seen on the sky and also on the edge of mountains on the lower part. It's also on the original, not just on processed image.

I'm curious, how beautiful were also photos after sunrise.

This scene can be shot any time in the morning with beautiful results.   Posted: 03/27/2023 10:32:49

I just returned from Death Valley so this scene at Zabriski Point is fresh in my mind. I like the sharp details in the foreground. You also did a good job at keeping the foreground colors pretty true to life. The background colors in the original are better as they don't pull my eyes away from the beautiful foreground.

Very beautiful landscape, but looks unreal, I think because of the HDR. It's very easy to overdo HDR. If you process it again in NIK HDR, you can make it more realistic-looking without losing any of the beauty.   Posted: 03/27/2023 10:49:43

Walter, WOW what an image! I think as the maker, it is your choice as to what you want the viewer to see and feel when the look at this image. It is definitely surreal...but to me that is a good thing.   Posted: 03/30/2023 16:41:31

Thanks for the comments. Yes, different levels of HDR can work if one likes that. As for after sunrise here is a shot.   Posted: 03/30/2023 17:08:38
