About the Image(s)

Taken at Wakodahatchee Wetlands one week ago. This is the perfect time of the year to capture images of birds in flight or nesting. Post processing included sharpening, adjusting the colors (taking down the brightness of the sky and softening the cloud in the lower left), I also lighten the eye and the legs so that more detail could be seen. Finally I cropped the image leaving extra space in the front for the bird to fly into.

Taken with my Nikon D 5200 on Manual Mode, Lens 55-300; Focal Length 102mm, Speed 1/2000 sec., F/8, ISO 800. I think what helped me achieve the sharpness of the image was the fact that it was a bright to and I was able to really up my Shutter Speed. I also changed my focus point from a Single Focus point to Dynamic Focus Points (9).

Nice job of handling the whites on this shot. You saved all the highlights.   Posted: 04/02/2021 19:09:54

Thanks Larry. I was concerned that I might have darken the blue too much but felt that this tone helped the bird to better "fit" with the background.   Posted: 04/07/2021 07:13:04

Nice shot and the post processing is very good. I suggest you look more closely at other frames shot of this bird within seconds. I believe you have a shot showing the bird's right wing. As shot I see a bird with one wing. She's beautiful but I believe you were concentrating on the big picture and just overlooked this detail.   Posted: 04/10/2021 21:18:11

Another favorite bird in flight. I like all your post processing, especially the eye. The side view with predominantly one wing showing works for me. Taken more from the front would be better, but not always possible. Excellent.   Posted: 04/12/2021 12:17:33

Terry - That's a great capture! I have quite a few egrets in flight myself but never with the benefit of light clouds with blue sky. All your details are sharp. The green lore stands out just right with the eyes. Well done.

Wakodahatchee Wetlands is a fun place to shoot, isn't it?   Posted: 04/15/2021 11:18:13

Thanks Bud! I have been trying to capture something like this for the past 8 years. When it all comes together, it looks like it is so simple to do but you and I know better.   Posted: 04/19/2021 14:33:08

Excellent shot of bird in flight. The image is sharp and you could get all the details of the birds body and wings. Your post processing is excellent. Since it is a side view, one can't expect to see the other wing. Well done.   Posted: 04/20/2021 13:26:49
