About the Image(s)

I took this photo from the roof of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Actually, I bracketed a set of 3 photos, with exposure set at -1, 0, and +1. The original shown here is the middle of the three, with settings of 1/400 sec, f/7.1, ISO 250, at 0 EV, and 72 mm with a 24-200mm lens on my Sony A6300 camera.

I created an HDR image from the 3 photos in the Aurora HDR software. In Lightroom I increased exposure, contrast, texture, and vibrance, and used horizontal transform to straighten the building. Finally, I used Topaz AI deNoise to remove the noise from the image.

Joan, nice job on the processing.I like the way you composed the image so that I can see a glimpse of the real mountains next to the wonderful reflection in the building.   Posted: 09/01/2020 16:59:35

I like the contrast of the geometric building and reflections with the distant mountains, and the flag to add interest. Good post processing.   Posted: 09/07/2020 13:15:15

Your crop emphasizes the vertical aspects while the flag draws attention to the scale. Your use of HDR really adds impact to the reflections in the windows. Great shot.   Posted: 09/15/2020 18:00:24

Joan, I do love capturing reflections! They make this image feel magical. Although there are parts of your edited image I think work very well for me (increase texture in the white building) there are several aspects of your original that I feel make it stronger than your edited version. I think the fact that the sky and mountains in the original are more subtle allows the stars of the image (the buildings) take center stage. Is there a way to use the HDR on only select portions of the image? This is definitely an image that is worth exploring options with. Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 09/15/2020 20:36:24

Terry, thank you. I have now made the sky and mountains subtle again. Piece of cake in Photoshop. Much improved.   Posted: 09/16/2020 07:34:28

Beautiful image. Nice composition. The image is sharp and has good lighting. I liked the reflections. Your cropping looks good to me. May be, a little more saturation can be added.   Posted: 09/18/2020 11:38:25

interesting building and good processing. I like reflections in the windows.

Was it possible to include the roofs or the whole buildings around? I do not like too much cut buildings and flags on the bottom.
