About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at a rodeo a couple of years ago with my Nikon D7500 set on shutter priority using a 400mm zoom lens. In Photoshop CC I first roated, flipped the canvas horizontal; then adjusted brightness, contrast, vibrance, and saturation. I removed some distractions with content aware and the clone tool by removing the pole next to the cowboy's face. I also cloned out the people on the left side near the railing. Lastly, I resized the image and added a boarder.

Nice action shot. I liked the flying hat which shows the speed and thrill of the action. The removal of the pole next to the cowboy's face, mobile photographer and the other two persons on left side were removed perfectly. Lighting and sharpness look good to me. I have no suggestions. Well done.   Posted: 09/12/2019 00:08:55

Kathleen, what a GREAT story this image tells. I think your flipping the image and cloning out the pole really help us focus on the rider. I am wondering if you should consider cropping even more. I feel that eliminating ground and sky will help us focus even more on the main subject. LOVE how you captured the hat. Great shot!   Posted: 09/12/2019 09:10:16

Great action shot especially with the hat flying. Good dust cloud and environment. I would crop tighter.   Posted: 09/13/2019 09:03:16

Yes, perfect action image and good cloning out. I would also make tighter crop.   Posted: 09/18/2019 15:13:42

Good capture of the action and motion - including the dust, flying hat, and blurred hind legs - and still nice and sharp in the main image.

I too would crop more, taking out as much of the people on the right as you can - to the middle of the red gate - and leaving just the man and woman behind the red gate (and one women in a red shirt - behind the horse's mane). Just those 3 people would add to the photo. The others are distracting.

Also I suggest you straighten the "horizon line" by rotating the image and using the vertical transform tool.   Posted: 09/19/2019 10:19:09

I love the action in this photo, especially the flying hat. Great "erasure" work and color enhancement.

To my eye, the image looks as if it needs just a bit of straightening. I also agree that a tighter crop would remove some distractions and help me to focus more on the horse and rider.   Posted: 09/23/2019 09:01:53
