About the Image(s)

"The Wall" is a rescue attempt. The sunlight casted what I thought were sharp shadows on a yellow wall. It looked like the shadow of the tree crept over the road and climbed on the wall, and the shadow of a traffic sign looked like a black door. To my disappointment, the shadows turned out blurry although the surface of the plaster was in focus. As there was no wind, I think that the light was just too diffuse for the purpose. Fuji X-T2, Zoom 18-55 mm, F 18 mm, f/9, 1/500 s, ISO 200. AE, manual focus. Developed in Capture One 21, put through every sharpening program we have without any result. Found a Look preset ”Concrete Chalk” in Topaz Studio (an impression filter with soft brush with some spill and smudge + rough concrete texture) Do you think that it works?

Very nice image looks like the tree is being shucked into the doorway.   Posted: 04/12/2021 17:05:41

It is mysterious as is. Looks like a filter similar to Fractalious was used. I think this works quite well. There's nothing that says everything has to be sharp. It was clever to get rid of the rest of the traffic light so that the black square does resemble a small door, maybe for a Hobbit. When I look at the image, my brain tries to sharpen it, but then I realize that it is much more interesting with the diffuse look. There are some really good ideas here.

Hi Kirsti, this presents well and looks as if it was intentionally created as a graphic design rather a documentary photograph. The blurred tree and doorway blend with the texture of the wall to create this effect. There is a shape just to the right of the tree trunk where the wall meets the ground. At first I thought this was a little alien, but I think it is a plant. It is a bit distracting and I suggest you consider removing it. Very interesting image.   Posted: 04/21/2021 14:09:42

Thanks Billy, you are totally right with removing the plant! I'll do that right away!   Posted: 04/22/2021 13:24:44

This is a very captivating image. I have two comments.
1. Sun shadows will always be blurry because (physics and optics here) the sun is not a point source of light, but a disk.
2. I LOVE the little alien.   Posted: 04/29/2021 00:02:46

So I think it is a perfect Halloween or spook photo. Sort of creepy and at the same time unique. I'd find a hunchback figure and paste him in between the tree and the sign coming down the hill. I like it!   Posted: 04/30/2021 13:26:20
