Doorways to Infinity by Rick Finney, APSA

April 2021 - Doorways to Infinity

About the Image(s)

This image was taken quite a few years back when Jerry and I were working on a 3D show concurring Chaco Canyon. Frankly I do not remember the camera I used, I know it is a common shot taken there at the park, but the scene is soooo sublime and mystical I had to capture. The scene in stereo is even more sublime. Post production was in Topaz Studio 2 and Luminar AI.

Rick,
You managed to get great lighting throughout this image. Just enough shadows and dark lighting to make it really interesting. Your title works well for this. Nice shooting and placement of the doorways, just off center to keep it from becoming static. Excellent work. I would have loved to see your 3D show.

Rick, it is like walking straight into the image, and through the rooms and gateways into light and infinity, as you say. There is a huge sense of depth, with the series of diminishing frames within frames, and the lighting. At first I was wondering if the dark forms just at the upper edge might draw the eye just a little bit from the journey through the portals, but realized that actually they make an upper frame that adds balance and increases the three-dimensional feeling? I looked up the Canyon in internet, an awe-inspiring place!   Posted: 04/14/2021 00:06:02

Hi Rick, I really enjoy looking at this photograph, it draws me into the scene. I agree with the comments about lighting and perspective, also the color is very pleasing. In addition, your design of the frame around the picture adds a lot to the presentation.   Posted: 04/21/2021 13:34:49

Great light and the color is wonderful. The frames around the image seem to draw into the image.   Posted: 04/21/2021 14:00:59

Rick, I recognized this photo immediately as having come from Chaco Canyon. All of the canyon holds mystery and mystique. Nice work! An amazing bird tribe that left so much to discover when it left the canyon.   Posted: 04/30/2021 13:40:56
