About the Image(s)

One of the most famous lighthouses in CA is Pigeon Point. Used to be that they had a photographers' night where they actually ran the fresnel light, just for us. It was quite a gathering. Nowadays, they are trying to restore it as money allows. I took this shot recently using my Rokinon wide angle lens, 14 mm, 2.8 with my Nikon D750 It was wide enough the accommodate the inlet plus the lighthouse. Strangely enough, another member of our camera club took exactly the same photo with exactly the same crop, but we were not together there. I changed it to monochrome using Nik's Silver Efex Pro 2, and that's about all I did. I chose a preset with a lot of contrast.

Joan, a magnificent scene! I think that the crop and composition are perfect. The inlet with the rough water and the steep cliffs highlight the purpose of the lighthouse as a protector in dangerous seas. The high-contrast black-and-white presentation is also an excellent choice. This could be an engravinging from the early days of the lighthouse. A great picture!   Posted: 09/10/2020 12:45:27

Very well done Joan. I do not remember seeing this lighthouse before but I really like it. The lighter grass of the cliff leads my eye around to the lighthouse. The white of the water is perfect, because I can see that a lower tide or in between waves, that leading line might be gone. I love the clouds also. Just my process thoughts, but I would of tried to have more contrast in the sky to make the clouds really pop. Maybe you tried that and it didn't work or you didn't prefer it. Just a nit, the dust spots in the left sky popped out when you increased the contrast. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 09/10/2020 14:34:41

I love lighthouses where ever they are. I enjoy it as Black & White. The balance is striking. Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 09/24/2020 10:19:40
