About the Image(s)
This image required several layers. To begin with I created a sky-blue flag into a jig-saw puzzle. Next I placed a masked poppy with a wonderful bee on it. Then I placed the poppy and flag on a black background and lastly framed it deal with a multi-colored stroke. To begin with I had no idea where I was going with the poppy and bee. But to my joy I came out with something that pleased me and I hope this will continue through this new year.

This is very creative Rick! I see a lightening bolt drawing the eye in from upper right corner, nice sky, a nice sharp center on poppy, nice balance of color with blue, red, yellow, and a border to top it off that follows your color scheme. Nicely done. If I could suggest anything it would be, have you tried to add blend modes or changing the opacity in your images in Photoshop? It might be something fun to try. I like what you are doing. It is very unique.

Carmen: I think I really like it. It really improves the image. But pardon my ignorance, how did you do it?   Posted: 01/14/2018 10:55:11
Rick:
I isolated the poppy (from your picture using Quick Mask)and copied it to a new layer. Use whatever selection technique you like best, just so you get a selection that you can use to isolate your image. In that layer I clicked the fx at the bottom of the layers panel. When the menu comes up on the lower right side, I chose "drop shadow" and adjusted the width and angle that I wanted to use. After that you can carry on with the merging and flattening etc. as usual.
Hope this helps. If I have not been clear, I can send you the procedure in an email. Carmen   Posted: 01/14/2018 12:39:00

Your poppy and bee are great, tack sharp and interesting nature story. Although it's fun to try to be more creative, Rick, I think in this case I would prefer a sold blue background, no puzzle anymore. The reason is because there's no logical relationship. I know you tried in your title. How about putting in a beautiful blue sky behind the poppy or even an interesting sunset which might pick up the color of the flower.   Posted: 01/15/2018 13:11:18

Hi Rick,
This is really a creative and fun image! I actually like the jigsaw puzzles. I would even try to make the entire image a jigsaw puzzle because my first look at it, I almost tempting to lift up a piece of the puzzle and play with it. I like the sharpness of the bees and the stems as the center attention. I also like the drop shadows that Carmen suggested. The matching color borders completed this artful image!
