About the Image(s)

I went to Assateague Island in the state of Maryland last summer and luckily I was able to take a picture of a wild horse when I got very close. The weather was very windy after a storm.

I edited with PS/ACR by cropping, filling content aware and using Curve adjustment. 1/500, f9, ISO160 by Sony A7riii at focal lens 75mm.

Quang,
A very nice and peaceful composition. My suggestion is to reopen the image in ACR and pull down the highlights a little to bring out a little more details in the clouds. I might also try using the adjustment brush or the radial filter in ACR to open up the shadows a little on the pony. All in all I think your crop works well. A nice layered image .
Best regards,

Hi Qiang, nice image and good use of cropping to make the horse the centre of attention, I like your framing with the two fence supports framing the horse and leading the viewers eye. You have captured the environment well you can definitely feel the wind and the blue tintin the sky gives a chill to the viewer. As a suggestion follow Greg's advice with the clouds, if it were my image I would probably place a slight gradient to darken (slightly) the are image right, placing more emphasis on the area around the horse   Posted: 02/03/2021 16:10:04

Hi, Quang. I agree with all of the above comments and congratulate you on a well done image from a composition, sharpness and interest standpoint. This already excellent image MIGHT be enhanced by adding some contrast, especially in the sky as it seems a bit dull. See attached. The effects are subtle, but I think it enhances the image.   Posted: 02/04/2021 09:41:57

Hi Quang - I love the feel of this photograph. While technically sharp, it has an overall vast, wind-swept, softness about it. The composition has a lot to do with this too - I like the juxtaposition of the fencing with the rise of the horizon and that small bit of water that confirms what we already knew. I agree with those who've commented before me about needing some contrast, but to the sky only to create more interest there, although ever so slightly so you don't lose the overall feel. Very nice!   Posted: 02/05/2021 00:47:51

I enjoy the Zig-Zag design of this composition that fills the frame; from cloud to dune to fence. Provides dynamic backdrop for calm windblown wild pony.   Posted: 02/08/2021 12:43:16

As your choice the subject "horse," you are nice done cropping, but it also loses the attractive "wildness." I like the original picture composition and to take off people from the land, so the subject would contrast the sky and sand land to show "wildness." it is just my opinion   Posted: 02/18/2021 09:03:04

Hi Quang,
Following rule of third in the frame made this subject prominent. Even though most of the image has a softness
in general, but for a subject like this really tells a story of the wild horse. For me its a well cropped and composed image. good work.
Cheers.
