About the Image(s)

The image was taken in 2018 on an Alaskan Cruise. It was made with a Sony A6000 and shot at F7.1 with an ISO of 800 and a shutter speed of 1/800. What caught my eye was the lighthouse being overpowered by the majestic mountains. I used Photoshop to replace the existing sky with one taken a few minutes earlier. I processed the image in Camera Raw and Photoshop, with some finishing touches in Nik's Color Efex Pro.

Beautiful Image! I like the composition and lighting, but it seems there are a few noises, probably due to over sharpening result.   Posted: 12/02/2020 08:49:37

Xiao,
Thanks for your feedback. I ran the image through a noise reduction program, and then decided to convert it to B&W. I would like to hear what you think.

I like the color image better. The noises are mainly in water. I checked the original image, and it seems no noises in the original images.   Posted: 12/03/2020 15:51:03

Hi Greg, nice job of processing from the original, detail and tones in the mountain and forest make the image come to life. I agree with Xia on the noise issue particularly in the sky, which may have come in with your sky replacement image. For me I have a problem with the balance of this image, the focal point of the island and white building opposing the huge mountain in the image right to me seems to be unbalanced. I did a simple repositioning of your image which takes it away from the original scene (which some think this type of manipulation should not be undertaken) I think the image is a bit more balanced, of course, a personal choice.   Posted: 12/03/2020 16:26:12

I agree with Xiao's suggestion regarding noise reduction and the use of color being a stronger image. I feel that Tom is on the right track here with repositioning the subject to the right as I feel that it better accomplishes your artistic intent which was to juxtapose the lighthouse and the mountains. NICE JOB!!   Posted: 12/03/2020 17:01:42

I think my colleagues have about covered any critique I would have shared. The post-processing is nicely done - love the colors. A good solid image Greg.   Posted: 12/05/2020 22:11:52

Hi Greg, I like the composition of image and your adding in light cloud to image. The 2 lines between water/hill and the hill/snow mountain made viewer more interesting in different zones of depth of field. If I could modify I could use blur filter to increase the DOF. Also, I like the red spot of the roof. Nice capture.   Posted: 12/10/2020 15:42:05
