About the Image(s)

I took this picture with a remote trigger. Karuna is a model, she is my Yoga Instructor. I used the PixelStick as a light painting tool. Focal length: 35mm. Exposure: 8.0 sec; f/8; ISO125. Post processing, I just add little clouds, and use Curves to enhance color and light.

WOW!! What a creative use of light painting!!! I need some answers. Did you use a tripod?? Did you use one sweep or multiple sweeps of the light wand?? How far away was the light wand from the model? GREAT JOB and 5 stars for creativity.   Posted: 12/02/2020 17:58:59

Hi John, sorry for late response. I took this picture with sturdy tripod, far away about 12 feet with 16-35mm lens. I use Pixel stick and made it display longer. Iis not out of the frame. #2. Time I set for pixelStick long enough for one path of light. If I do it too long, the model may move, so I have to paint fast. #3. Make sure the brightness of RBG correct.

I held the trigger so that I can turn off the BULB mode when finish painting, so the time to cut off may not depends of the light.

I reiterate that this is a VERY CREATIVE use of light painting!!!! My suggestion would be (1) try to be 6-8 feet from the model with the light wand so that you don't get reflections on the arms and (2) Open the shutter and then turn on the light wand at the bottom of your arc, make the sweep and then turn off the light wand and release the shutter so you get a smooth rainbow effect with just a silhouette of the model. VERY WELL DONE!!!!   Posted: 12/10/2020 16:37:48

Hi John, I misunderstood your question. My camera is 12ft from the model. If you want to do light painting you can " Youtube" search Eric Pare. He is a professional. Thanks for comment   Posted: 12/10/2020 17:02:15

Hi Quang, great bit of light painting and use of the PixelStick. I think the semi circle being non formal adds to the image, with the model being slightly illuminated adding to the mystique of the image. The foreground illumination on the pathway is well captured. While I like the light painting I think you have to many elements in the image. For my eye I would have concentrated in just the model and light painting, other than suggesting the location I don't believe the memorial in the back ground adds to the image.
Nice image and well executed and processed. Inspires me to do some light painting   Posted: 12/03/2020 15:05:36

Thank you for you thought and comment. Yes light painting need a dark place and water for reflection to enhance. I have not found good place for it. I appreciate your comment. Thanks   Posted: 12/10/2020 16:25:24

Quang, to me this is an excellent image. I love the contrast of the dark image, the rainbow backdrop behind her and then back to the (almost) BW background. Well done.   Posted: 12/05/2020 10:19:21

Hi Quang - A very creative use of light. The thick rainbow stripes of color are unique and quite effective . . . the use of the model is a nice element as well. I tend to agree that the focus should be on the light painting, model and related reflections so cropping out other distractions might help create more impact. Nice technique and execution overall -   Posted: 12/05/2020 21:30:50
