September 2020 - Buzzing Along

About the Image(s)

In the last month, I ran across acres and acres of sunflowers on the eastern plains about an hour from my home. While most were a bit past their prime and photographing the vast landscape of sunflowers wasn't going to work, there were still enough sunflowers just beginning to bloom or in full bloom worth making the stop to photograph. I have already marked my next year's calendar to go a couple of weeks earlier. Wished for more time and my wide angle lens, but made do with what I had. This image was taken mid-morning and other than cropping and the basics such as sharpening, dehazing and playing with clarity, it is pretty much as it came out of the camera. Hand held Nikon D500 with my go to Tamron zoom lens - ISO250; 400mm; f6.3; 1/640 sec. I would entertain any thoughts for improvement.

Darcy, you have a very fine image of the sunflower in vibrant colors. I like including the green leaf in the image that complements the yellow of the flower. Like your title too that suits the image and points my attention to the bee. The diffused background is well done.
I personally would like to see a little more of the flower on the left side. Also a suggestion to size the image about 1024x768 size so that more details of the bee can be seen as in this small image it's presence is not much noticeable.   Posted: 09/04/2020 10:56:29

Thanks Arun - I appreciate the positive input and good suggestions. I think the slight change in crop would work well. I'll also work on the size issue. Best -   Posted: 09/04/2020 23:05:08

Nice image with very vibrant strong yellow. You have captured the light well and I like your framing you have chosen, most would be tempted to include the whole flower, this framing for me works very well. I did have a play with your image and by a simple horizontal rotation (to me) it looks a bit more balanced I also darkened the background a touch to place more emphasis on the flower. I agree a visit next season would be a worthwhile exercise   Posted: 09/04/2020 20:21:40

I could have provided the whole flower but liked the tighter crop which gives the bee some room. Your changes are welcomed and I especially like your idea to flip the image horizontally. Thanks -   Posted: 09/04/2020 23:08:27

Darcy,
Another nice image. I have become a fan of your floral images. I am not going to offer any suggestions because I like the way you arranged it. I like the color palette and the scale of the bee against the size of the sunflower. Just a very nice image.
Best regards,
