Dandelion Close-Up by Darcy Johnson

March 2020 - Dandelion Close-Up

About the Image(s)

This month's submission was taken in the foothills above Boulder Colorado on a hike last summer. More of a close-up rather than a macro, I was using a 18 - 400mm lens. I was playing with some random photographs in post processing last month and I was pleasantly surprised at the background colors that emerged. Taken with a Nikon D500, settings were ISO 80, 240mm, f6.3, 1/40 sec. Basic post processing in Lightroom - cropping, sharpening and bringing forward and enhancing background colors.

I like the color palette and the repeating bell shapes. A very nice image that is close to being an abstract.

Darcy, I don't know what happened to my original comments? But here goes again. I was very impressed with your image! I really like the close up feeling. The sharpness is spot on. I also enjoyed the "trans parity" of the image and being able to see "through" the subject. Very nice, for some reason this image gave me a nice feeling.   Posted: 03/14/2020 14:15:05

I think you have captured a very fine image of this blossom in good sharpness and with good details. I like the pattern formed by repetition of various elements here. The colors are blending well too.
Did you shoot like that or crop the top and bottom as seen here? I like it as the asymmetrical presentation as it draws more attention to the image.   Posted: 03/14/2020 17:54:44

The top and bottom are as photographed. I got a bit too close to the subject and felt the sides required a bit of cropping on both sides to balance out the photo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.   Posted: 03/14/2020 19:23:29
