About the Image(s)

This image was taken from across the road and into the park from my house top verandah. It lacked something as a colour image but I really liked the composition and decided to convert it into mono 'silhouette' format and was pleased with the result.

Hi Yvonne, You have a very interesting monochrome here right from the verandah of your home. As they say that interesting images are everywhere only it is keen eye that sees. I see a story here of the children engaged in fishing with the guidance of a parent. Your exposure to get the silhouettes effect is right on spot. Good idea to include the trees in the image as it completes the natural setting.
In my very personal opinion there is a bit too much of black in the image so I have cropped on the top and a bit on the left side to give more prominence to the main subject I also added a thin border to isolate the image from the background.   Posted: 09/04/2019 09:42:00

An excellent image of mono and 'silhouette'both. A great story telling too. I also agree with Arun about the negative space on the top. A slightly different composition by Arun but it makes it eye soothing too...   Posted: 09/09/2019 20:53:03

This is a very good story-telling image. I have to agree that Arun's crop, though I might go further and take out the two X trees on the left as well. Your image illustrates a major advantage of monochrome treatment over color in many situations: color in this case woulod have added nothing except busy-ness and distraction!

Yvonne - How I envy the view from your home! The story is great and I like what you did with the photograph - monochrome and as a silhouette was a great choice. Everyone agrees about removing some negative space on top. I concur with the cropping Arun did on the sides as it adds to the silhouette, but I can also see Larry's point about removing some trees as it simplifies the scene - so perhaps a matter of preference. If it were mine, I might have left a little more on the bottom for balance and weight. Bottom line - I agree with everyone above that cropping a bit more strategically would enhance an already good photograph.   Posted: 09/11/2019 22:43:03

Many thanks everyone. Yes I can see that more cropping does improve the image.   Posted: 09/11/2019 22:55:45

Hi Yvonne
I so love contrasty mono images and this really attracted my attention a great silhouette really well seen I would also suggest a slight crop in from the left and a thin white stroke around the outer edge of the picture just so it stands clear of the black background those are minor points and should not detract from the fact its a great image.   Posted: 09/20/2019 16:25:10
