Summer Frocks on Display by Kathaleen Coelho

June 2020 - Summer Frocks on Display

About the Image(s)

Taken with a Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm lens, at 36 mm, ISO 100, 1/13 sec at f/9.

While on a stroll in Marblehead, Mass, this colorful window display caught my eye from across the street. The blue building with the yellow door itself is attractive, but the Reds in the window pull you to look in the store to see more. I went back and forth on whether to keep the painted white cross walk at the bottom of the photo - I'd cropped a lot of it --, and in retrospect I think maybe I should have left it out as it doesn't add anything. My thinking was that it pulled you in to the picture, but I'm not sure it did. I've had this photo for a while and while pleasing, I'm still not satisfied - should I look at the window display or the yellow door with the flower pot?

Summery shot of an attractive scene. I think the street and the door give it context and add to the whole.   Posted: 06/12/2020 15:47:36

I almost moved to Marblehead about 25 years ago. I loved all the old buildings and looked forward to living in such an historic city. You've done a great job of capturing a colorful spring clothing display framed with historic old architecture.   Posted: 06/12/2020 16:45:30

A well dressed window display. The singular figures in each window work when combined with the accessories as well. Also, you've the bright flower display against the yellow door. Nicely seen.   Posted: 06/18/2020 05:48:35

Hi Kathaleen, great looking window, well spotted, very colourful and bright, I don't think the white paint detracts at all, having more in the foreground, than at the top gives better perspective, the red dress in the middle draws you in immediately   Posted: 06/20/2020 05:07:05
