The lone tree by Steven Wharram, LRPS

January 2020 - The lone tree

About the Image(s)

This was actually taken a little while ago on a previous trip tothe States. This lone tree was growing on the side of a mesa in the Zion National Park. Not only did I love the minimalism of it but I also loved the different lines formed by the strata of the rock.

How I did it:
As usual, I've tried to keep manipulation to a miminum:
Here, I've literally just cropped to size

Very cleaver to find a small tree on a top, and love the blue sky to bright to allow one to see the tree to POP.   Posted: 01/10/2020 13:00:37

Have not been to Zion, but it is on my travel list. This is stunning; the texture of the mesa leads us up to the lone tree and the bright blue sky. A perfect and striking image.   Posted: 01/10/2020 14:05:27

I think this is a really nice image and to me it shows a juxtaposition of a tree that perhaps has been around for 20 years against geological layering that is millions of years in the making.   Posted: 01/13/2020 18:20:13

Hi Steven, Well spotted, the tree naturally draws your eye to the tree, looks great against the sky with no distractions, I like the rock layering very impressive.   Posted: 01/17/2020 06:42:37
