About the Image(s)

This was taken in the Spring of 2019. As it is snowing outside here, I thought a nice Spring flower was needed. This was taken with a 50mm lens with my old Canon Rebel 5i. 1/320 f/35 ISO 100. I always like photographing anything Spring. It is always the first flowers and plants as they bloom.

Thank you for this touch of spring, Gavin. The composition is good here, with the flower not quite centered. I rather like the green in the lower left and the black in the upper right. My eye seems to follow the green into the flower and stop at the black, keeping attention on the flower itself. The depth of field seems to be a little shallow.   Posted: 02/10/2021 10:39:04

A very colorful image. I feel it needs to be focused , as well as removing the piece of another flower on the top left. I played with it, Put it through Topaz De Noise and Topaz Focus. I then removed the flower on the top left. I also removed the little green spot toward the center of the flower and softened the white spots. This is what I got.   Posted: 02/14/2021 13:57:54

The play of lights and shadows adds to the flower's own patterns of black spots. I can't wait for the flowers of spring this year! Nice to be reminded. You know how gloomy it has been here in Overland Park! Not a "park" at all! I edited your photo to emphasize the theme of patterns, by removing the white areas on the greenery.   Posted: 02/14/2021 14:30:15

Yes always good to think of Spring when we are in the middle of winter! I really like the shape of this flower and how you have captured the light diffusing though the petals. My eye goes directly to the centre of the flower then to the green. I think i agree with Carole's edit to take out the white area of the greenery.   Posted: 02/14/2021 15:58:17

Nicely done. I think the green leaf in the corner adds impact. I like the fact that you filled the frame with the flower. Regarding Stuart's edit, I, too, use Topaz. The new suite is exceptional.   Posted: 02/15/2021 09:07:52

I like this photo. Great touch of what's to come in a few months time. I get a bit distracted by the color in the upper left corner and would have done what Stuart showed with his edit. I agree with all about the green in the bottom left and the composition. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 02/17/2021 22:12:23
