Members Choice - Right of Way by Walter Ross

October 2020 - Members Choice - Right of Way

About the Image(s)

For Members choice: This is called "Right of way". It was taken last year at a Wine and Balloon festival in California. Obviously, we were in the balloon flying above. When Balloons are flying so close, the lower balloon has the right of way since they cannot see you directly above. (Although I did wonder if they could see our refection in the lake as we could see theirs) I really did not have to do much to this as it was early in the am so we had great lighting and a clear barely breezy day. We just floated along and enjoyed the landscape. I cropped and resized. Taken with D750 f/5.6 Iso250.

The composition is so good, one would think you had planned this shot. The position of the balloon in the curve of the shore, the balance provided by the road to the tight, the smooth water and textured land. Very well done.   Posted: 10/10/2020 14:22:12

Wow - that's a great shot, Walter. One I'll never be able to take with my fear of heights ... sigh!
The composition is perfect, great colors and the reflection in the lake is the last perfect item in this photo.   Posted: 10/11/2020 02:09:13

I felt the shot was spot on. You could almost see this as a macro shot as there isn't anything showing the size being it is up in the air ! I really liked the reflections. Could you say what lens was used ?   Posted: 10/15/2020 08:06:37

A great perspective on this shot and nice that you have captured the reflection too. I am with Kerstin on this as i have a fear of heights though only in hot air balloons so good job capturing this! Nice soft lighting and the curves on the land below sync well with the roundness of the balloon.   Posted: 10/16/2020 11:25:24
