Something Silly - Being a Tourist by Ally Green

June 2020 - Something Silly - Being a Tourist

About the Image(s)

This was taken in Hoi An in Vietnam a couple of years ago. My husband, being a tourist, was taking a photo and was attracting attention. I just liked how they were all interacting in the moment and obviously found my husband amusing! I tried converting to black and white but think I prefer this image with the red lanterns adding a touch of color.

All those smiles give me the silly feeling, too. I'm sure we Americans often look silly when we're in foreign cultures. I definitely like to see the red color in this image because red lanterns and lots of color seem characteristic of that culture. It's great that your husband had an "enjoyable" look on his face, too!   Posted: 06/17/2020 14:09:25

What a wonderful experience that must have been. No common language or culture, but a shared moment of joy! Definitely color! B&W would have kind of merged all those different people. This was probably just a grab shot, but the composition is good and your timing impeccable.   Posted: 06/17/2020 16:38:10

This is a wonderful image! Everything works here - the colors, the positioning of the people and the definitely the expressions on their faces. The little boy stands out with his bright yellow shirt, looking up at your tall husband. Great job!   Posted: 06/19/2020 08:54:55

I like how this conveys the 'silly' in us all regardless of venue. The locals 'laughing' at/with tourists is a time honored practice! I like how you can just enjoy their 'joy' by merely looking at the photo. Love the colors and wide view... I probably would have removed the one man walking away as he is a distraction but overall a good representation of Silly! Thank you.   Posted: 06/26/2020 19:49:36
