About the Image(s)

This was taken in a park over the weekend. I was searching for something big and then started looking at things small. It was taken with a Canon EOS R with a Tamron 18-400mm lens at 138mm. It was cropped to try to focus more on the two groups of berries.

I applaud your project of hunting for a pair of... in a park! Not an easy task! Your cropping shows off the pretty red color of the berries. If I had a 400mm lens, I would have stepped back and shot the berries as a telephoto shot. The sunlit daytime lighting has deep shadows and very bright areas. When I shoot like this, I darken whatever I can around the main subject to help it not get lost in the big scene. And I brighten the shadows in my main subject. The image is, of course, no longer "as found" in person but looks less like a snapshot. See my example photo.   Posted: 11/06/2019 22:11:16

Thanks Carole! I don't know why I didn't think of fixing that post processing. Good ideas !   Posted: 11/07/2019 18:51:20

I like the quiet, personal feeling in this shot. Your enlargement is quite good quality. There are ways of darkening the background such as holding a dark cardboard behind the image. But I think the background as is does a good job. You would have to experiment and compare side-to-side. Because there is a lot of room around the branch, have you tried tilting it at different angles? This might not make much difference, but it's fun trying.   Posted: 11/07/2019 10:30:29

There is a simplicity about this shot. I like the way the light shines on the berries emphasizing the interaction between them and the branch. You have done well with the cropping to cut out the background blur in the original. I might have cropped a bit more maybe of the branch on the left hand side.   Posted: 11/07/2019 12:47:21

Well seen this little pair of berries and good crop with the branch coming out of the left corner.
I have another suggestion to get the two berries more an eyecatcher - what do you think?   Posted: 11/08/2019 23:24:17

I like Kerstin's image better than mine, because now the berries really, really show up well!   Posted: 11/25/2019 19:01:26

I like your image of pairs, however I would crop the pairs
enlarge the pairs.   Posted: 11/18/2019 15:31:44

The pair of berries is a good subject. I like Kerstin' version which is basically a black and white with one color (red) accent. It really makes the berries stand out.
