Fruit Plate by Walter Ross

July 2017 - Fruit Plate

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at the arts and craft fair in Prescott, AZ.
The carving was taken at F11, 1/125 at ISO 400.
I worked with Photoshop to crop, resize, and adjust the exposure.
I thought about removing the side items, but I thought it did not add to the image.

An arts and craft fair was a great place to find good photo subjects! I'll have to remember that! The artist chose a great color to contrast with the fruit. I do think the side dishes distract, so I edited your photo to be just the plate. And I gave it a colorful border, because I know you like them!

To get rid of the background, I set the Clone to be not aligned (I clicked to remove the check in the box). Then I chose a black area and started stamping all around the outside. It was only 10 seconds worth of stamping!

Then I used the crop tool with the Content Aware box checked and made a big square around the plate.

The borders are just the Stroke command in Photoshop.   Posted: 07/08/2017 12:05:10

Click on my edited photo to see it larger, well, actually the same size as Walter's.   Posted: 07/08/2017 12:05:56

I've tried doing pictures at shows, and I never have much luck. I end up with shadows, bad backgrounds, etc.

I like the presentation. I do think the objects around it are distracting, and would took them out, like what Carol did.

I love your chosen colors, Walter. Adding Caroles suggestions makes the photo just better without the distracting things around. My problem now: I want to have my very own strawberries now to eat! ;-)

You heard enough about the distracting objects. The colors are beautiful, the exposure is perfect, the composition almost perfect. There seems to be no little seed texture in the strawberries. Were they ceramic, by chance? Overall, a very good job and perfect for the assignment.   Posted: 07/24/2017 13:08:55

the strawberries were carved out of wood and painted.   Posted: 07/24/2017 17:20:37
