About the Image(s)

I was on a boat on the Saint Lawrence Seaway when we went under an Interstate Highway. I photographed the bridge in infrared with a mirrorless camera at 1/640, at f 5.3, ISO at 200 and with a wide angle lens at 35 mm. In Photoshop I converted the image from infrared to mono and then straightened the vertical lines and also greatly reduced the horizontal base of the structure as I felt it was too large and detracted from the main subject. I also increased the vertical height of the image.

Hi Jim,
Another unusual subject that you captured perfectly. I might suggest that since it was IR that you take the sky darker and brighten/sharpen the structure of the bridge to emphasize the bulk and details to contrast against the sky.

In your IR capture the dark sky contrasts nicely with the sunlit sides of the repeating support columns, but not the shaded sides featured in this shot. The captain probably would not have agreed to reposition the boat for a different photograph.

Very clean "photoshopping" of ground level to emphasize the converging roadways.

Great architectural shot. I like the angle of view. I'm not sure I concur about straightening the uprights, however. It feels a bit too "top-heavy" to me. I do like what you did with the base.   Posted: 02/20/2021 16:21:00
