About the Image(s)

A pair of lapwing in their original position to each other. The enlarged section gave a better impression. Something was retouched and reworked in the water. The color picture is really great; however, I thought that the b / w picture was a special representation. So that the comparison works better, I have included the edited color image as an original.

Canon 7D, aperture 8, focal length 600mm (Sigma 150-600), exposure 1/100, ISO 640, camera fixed. Distance to property about 55 yrd.

What do you think about it? What can be improved in the B / W picture?

Wonderful mirror symmetry, left/right and up/down. M. C. Escher and elementary particle physicists would admire this photo.   Posted: 09/04/2020 14:52:17

Just wonderful simplicity, and symmetry, Peter, the positioning of the birds is priceless, and I like how you saw that this would work in black and white. To me it's made truly special by the fact that it's real (I know that doesn't matter to many).

The only thing that gives me pause is the shade of gray background is close tonally to the reflection, not sure if something might be done about that, or if it's even a problem really.   Posted: 09/06/2020 17:47:42

Thank you, Jack! To be honestly: I stamped a little bit on the photo, so I can't use it in nature division. Sending it in PID color, there was no chance, so I tried it in b/w.

The shady grey comes from the water, so in fact, there is not a real background. I'm not so experienced in trimming photos. Mostly I use them as they are, only using the tools in RAW. I would like to see, how a "professional" would handle that photo.

BTW, the picture gained 3 acceptances in 3 different salons - only b/w.   Posted: 09/06/2020 19:06:51

I like this very much, Peter. I'm reminded of some Asian paintings I've seen in its simplicity and almost meditative quality.   Posted: 09/07/2020 15:01:41
