Alley in AM by Jim Hagan, MPSA

August 2020 - Alley in AM

About the Image(s)

We were in Charleston three years ago and went for a morning walk. As we
passed an alley I liked the view of the backside of buildings - probably
built over a hundred years ago. The cloudy sky provided a wonderful
backdrop and some puddles from an overnight rain added even more interest.
The image was photographed hand held using my Sony infrared converted camera
with a 75mm lens at 1/4000, f 1.8 and ISO at 200. I should have used a
slower shutter speed and shot at perhaps f/8.0. The original image was
converted to mono using a Nik Silver Efex filter.

IR captures strong contrast even in soft visible light.   Posted: 08/01/2020 12:35:14

I love shots like this. Alleys always have interesting stuff going on anyway, but the puddles and sky really make this special. Excellent processing as well.   Posted: 08/09/2020 18:04:20

Good capture of a behind the scenes view. The details are excellent along with the perspective of the shot with strong leading lines, but the puddles catch my eye and lead me through the shot to the wonderful sky. Well done, Jim.
