About the Image(s)

An October trip to Hope Valley just south of Lake Tahoe in the high Sierra caught the aspen leaves at peak color. Shooting from under the tree shows some trunk structure and, if clouds stay away, provides a complementary deep blue background. I took this shot at 1:30 on a warm afternoon. Three hours later a storm rolled in, blowing all the leaves off the trees by nightfall, and next morning we awoke (inside a warm cabin) to 3 inches of snow on the ground.

Canon 7D, Tamron 16-300mm at 20mm, f/11, 1/100s, iso 200. BW06 in the set of Adobe profiles available in LrC Develop module darkened the sky, enhancing contrast without blowing out the leaves.

Lovely study of shapes and patterns, Allen. Nice job of looking past the intense color and seeing beyond the obvious.   Posted: 08/09/2020 14:05:52

Thanks for the praise. And for completing my image description - I had left out the goal of the BW conversion your "shapes and patterns" phrase is a perfect summary.   Posted: 08/09/2020 15:32:37
