About the Image(s)

As the sun dropped toward the rim of the Tahoe Basin, I took my long zoom lens out to the lake for shots of boats coming in with sunset-colored clouds in the background. No clouds - grrrr! But a pair of jet skiers playing like very noisy porpoises gave me some back-lit silhouettes and spray on the glowing, textured water. Suggestions?

Canon 6D, Tamron 150-600mm G2 @330mm, hand held, 1/800s, f/8, iso 200. (Hand held and moving fast, the stabilization and autofocus of this lens worked very well.) Processed in LR with Adobe Monochrome profile and some contrast adjustment to bring out the tree lines in the background.

I like the mono version much more than the color. In my revision I made the waters have less contrast and I brightened the figure. And finally I liked the light come from the top left of the photo so I also brightened that as well.   Posted: 08/09/2019 14:58:14

Great edit Jim! You have introduced so much interest to this image.   Posted: 08/21/2019 01:03:05

I had to keep coming back to this one as I was really conflicted. I do really like the tones you've achieved, but the composition was wrong for an action shot, with the skier so close to leaving the frame. I played around and gave the skier more room to move into, while maintaining your lovely tones:   Posted: 08/21/2019 00:25:21

I first considered this "Here She Comes" crop, but it cuts off the long tail of spray which shows her speed. Elongating the crop makes the rider smaller, reducing the visual weight of the rim lighting that had me choose this shot from the burst. So I settled on this "There She Goes" version.   Posted: 08/22/2019 00:44:29
