About the Image(s)

This shot is from a 2008 trip to Glacier National Park. There are no glaciers left, but during the last ice age they gouged and carved mountains like Sinopah on the left.

Canon 30D, 35mm lens, f/5.6, 1/320, ISO 200. Processed in Lightroom: darkening the blues for sky/mountain contrast turned the dark lake black but brushing in some positive exposure revealed texture in the surface, adjusting greens and yellows brought out the trees, and localized clarity and tonal adjustments enhanced the rocks. I go back and forth on cropping out the end of the dock on the right - is it a distraction or does it show that the boat isn't about to hit the beach?

A beautiful image. Tones are fantastic and texture is great. yes to me dock is distracting. I tried to darken the sky a little bit more to contrast but your image still wins.   Posted: 07/13/2017 03:17:26

With the old camera, darkening the sky brings in a lot of noise. I stopped where the noise would be noticeable in a print.   Posted: 07/16/2017 00:22:08

The mountains look great but, as Arfan has said, the dock is too distracting. I think Arfan cropped the dock out of the photo. I cloned it out of the picture, darkened the sky, lightened the trees on the left but also darkened the mountain peak above them. I also tried to make the boat not quite so bright.   Posted: 07/14/2017 19:38:00

I prefer your clone to the crop, the boat isn't about to hit the frame.   Posted: 07/16/2017 00:24:44
