About the Image(s)

Shot with my Canon 5D Mark II, 1.0 sec at f / 8.0, ISO 200 Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens, stack of 58 shot on a rail, processed in Helicon. I used Color Effects Pro, Detail Extractor. Another question: My wife thinks there is far too much empty space in the middle; I think it brings out the propeller like petals. What do you think? Other thoughts about the image?

I think this is absolutely stunning, Doug, propellers and all. It stopped me as I scrolled thru all of this month's images. 58 shots on a rail! Very impressive.   Posted: 10/13/2020 01:15:48

At first glance, I don't think there's too much empty space in the middle. I think it is really nicely exposed, I love the textured detail of the petals. I almost think I'd either want it cropped Less, or MORE. Maybe not put the center in the center. Like this or something else. Really close up. But it's your shot so you get to play with it, right? I think it's great. I do get what your wife says, though, now that I've played with it a little. Hmmm.......   Posted: 10/19/2020 03:42:08

I actually love centered images. Go to any art gallery, & you will find paintings that ignore the tyranny of thirds. The way Brian Peterson terms it -- the suggestion of thirds -- is not so bad. At any event, for me, the two halves being very unequal mitigates the static quality which many centered images admittedly have.   Posted: 10/19/2020 15:55:18

My overall comment is there is more breathing space say 1 ins is sufficient at the top will give this shot a stunning look as the overall impact is excellent.   Posted: 10/19/2020 19:28:59

Good comment. I had no more at top, so I flipped it. Didn't like the point pointing down, cropped it out. I think it's a better image. Do you?   Posted: 10/20/2020 15:34:37

Doug, this is a lovely image. You captured the color and detail of the rose well. I like your last edit!   Posted: 10/25/2020 10:22:48
