Dahlia Sol by Diana Duffey

October 2020 - Dahlia Sol

About the Image(s)

How I Did It: I used my Sony a7R4 with the 90mm Macro lens to take this picture of one of the last dahlias in my garden. My
camera setting were : ISO 100, F16, SS 1/6. I took this picture indoors with one constant light and I used a tripod. In Photoshop,
I removed some of the blemishes. In Nik, I added a vignette after I selected a color from the flower. I did not label my layers in
Photoshop so I don’t know if I added a slight filter in Topaz. Before I saved the image, I did a levels adjustment. Your comments
on how to improve my images are always appreciated.

Lovely image and I like the way you have chosen a colour from the flower for the vignette which makes the flower stand out.
Well done!!   Posted: 10/13/2020 12:05:56

Angela, thank you for your positive comment. I am glad you liked the vignette that I applied to the dahlia. I have been working on my flower portraits.   Posted: 10/14/2020 11:00:54

As I emailed to you, I think it's lovely and soft and the backdrop color is perfect. The only thing I long for is just one point that's in focus. Maybe part of the center or one of the center-ish petals. But maybe you were aiming to not have any sharp in-focus?
Anyway, it's gorgeous.   Posted: 10/19/2020 03:46:15
