Zinnia by Diana Duffey

September 2020 - Zinnia

About the Image(s)

How I did it: I have been experimenting with aged flowers. I took this photo of this zinnia as it was starting to wilt. I took this image inside.
I used a tripod and two constant lights. I used my Sony a7R4 with a 90 mm Macro lens - ISO 100, F11, SS 1/8. I adjusted the shadows, white and black levels in Lightroom. Took it into photoshop and applied a texture. Your comments on how to improve this image are appreciated.

Very nicely done, in my opinion. You might try to do some dodging and burning of the flower to give it a little more depth. Also, I think the cropping is just a little too tight.   Posted: 09/11/2020 10:27:46

Thanks for your helpful comments, Mark. I am going to try to increase the canvas.   Posted: 09/11/2020 15:45:33

HI Diana, I love that you are playing around with wilting flowers. I did that in a club competition once and the judge commented that I might have chosen a more attractive subject. I wasn't too impressed with the comment. LOL
I like this a lot ! I think the subject is gorgeous !
The only think I might change is the color of the background. Did you try other colors? And yes, I agree with Mark that maybe it's cropped a little tight. I don't think it needs dodging and burning, I like it that way.
It's all so subjective !!   Posted: 09/16/2020 01:51:02
