About the Image(s)

How I Did It: I used the Sony a 7R3 with the Lensbaby Velvet 56 and a #2 macro filter. I took this picture indoors using LED lighting. I took this image into PS and I added a couple of textures and did a slight Levels adjustment. I am experimenting with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 and textures. Your comments on how to improve this image are always appreciated.

Well, I know people love the lensbaby. I'm not crazy about it. But I'm curious because I thought the macro filter was so you could get closer to your image, but then the lensbaby will make it a bit out of focus. Am I off here? So I don't understand. I don't think the buds were very pretty; I would have chosen a different subject. You have a lot of empty space here. Also the background doesn't do much for the buds. Maybe a similar color of pink, or a complimentary color would have worked better.
But I imagine you had fun doing it, that's what counts.   Posted: 06/10/2020 16:43:24

Do not know anything about a lensbaby. Only the one flower is in focus. The stem is not so I am not sure I like the technique.   Posted: 06/20/2020 10:26:16

Donna and Rich, such a disservice to the Lensbaby Velvet 56 because this poor image is my fault because I was in a hurry to post an image. My external drive on my computer where I keep my images was not allowing me to retrieve my photos so I just took a quick photo and posted it. The peony buds opened up into beautiful flowers the next morning. Since then, I was able to get my 10T external drive to work and I ordered another one for a backup.   Posted: 06/20/2020 11:26:46

Though I don't have a Lensbaby, I've tried one out with my Nikon D750 (on flowers in a city park) and found there is a definite learning curve involved! Selective focus can be a subtle and finicky thing to work with. Though more could be in focus in your image, I do like the lighting, colors and canvas texture.   Posted: 06/27/2020 14:22:06
