Pink lily on Pink by Donna Sturla

June 2020 - Pink lily on Pink

About the Image(s)

This was a store-bought lily which I photographed in front of a pink blouse I had. The tones didn't match. So I photographed the blouse separately and altered the hue to match the lily, then added it as a layer on top, and erased where the flower was. It was tricky. I used day light from the window. Held the flower upside down with a plamp.
Shot with my Nikon D7000, Sigma 17-70 lens, shot at 70 mm, ISO 200, F 8, 1/20 second.

I can almost smell the fragrance. Only thing I noticed where small brown pollen flakes on the flower petals. However keeping them in the photo makes it real. Lovely.   Posted: 06/10/2020 13:06:40

I like the detail of the flower. It is spot on. The pink background enhances the image. Great job.   Posted: 06/20/2020 10:17:49

I love finding everyday objects for backgrounds and textures. Very creative, the flower details are great and the image has a wonderful feel to it.   Posted: 06/21/2020 00:30:32

The lily is well-photographed - sharp throughout with vibrant color and detailed texture in the petals. The positioning of the stem on a descending diagonal is a nice touch. However, to my eye, the flower tends to merge into the similarly colored pink background. Since the background is on a different layer, I would try different shades of pink or even different hues to make the flower "pop" more in the image.   Posted: 06/27/2020 11:16:22
