Orange Ranunculus by Diana Duffey

About the Image(s)

How I did it. I took this image with my Sony a7R 3. I used my Lensbaby 56 lens with an extension. The camera settings
were:ISO 100, SS 1/40. I am not sure of the Fstop. I think it was F 5.6. I did minor adjustment in LR and I applied a texture in PS.

Diana,
I think it's a lovely flower and you got the exposure and focus spot on.
On the other hand, I see it off-center and the background color is just distracting. I played around with backgrounds and here's what I did. See what you think.   Posted: 05/14/2020 14:23:46

OK, well I chose a texture that I like of a piece of fabric, but it wasn't quite the right color, so I played around with the hue until I thought it looked similar to the flower. Then I layered in Photoshop, put it on top of the flower, then created a layer mask and brushed away the color so the flower showed through, and the stem also.
I merged the layers, then cropped with "content aware" so I could add more of the background to the right side. That put the flower in a different place. I actually tried three different backgrounds but I liked this one best.   Posted: 05/14/2020 19:02:52

Donna, thank you for taking the time to explain what you did to enhance the flower. I find it so very helpful.   Posted: 05/14/2020 20:22:57

Great flower image. I really like the color of the flower. The petals are sharp. Composition is right on in my opinion.   Posted: 05/15/2020 14:36:38

Thanks,Rich. I have been working on the lighting. I tend to under or over expose my images.   Posted: 05/16/2020 14:06:11
