About the Image(s)

I took this photo of a fallen branch in November while hiking in the Mt. Charleston area (Nevada). It looked to me like a small dragon rearing up in a wintery landscape. I used a Samsung Galaxy S10e smartphone with minimal editing.

Interesting !! It looks a bit saturated to me, like the sky and snow at the top behind the branch, and I wonder if cropping a bit of the sky out of the picture, OR if you moved back and got a bit more of the foreground, otherwise you can't really tell what it is.
Or maybe that's what you wanted?

I kind of like the notion of not knowing for certain what it is.   Posted: 01/10/2020 16:11:03

Visiting from 48 & 80. I love where the imagination can go with this imae. I think an improvement might be to use a non-destructive layer mask and darken the mountains just a bit so that the "dragon" is offset by a bit.   Posted: 01/13/2020 10:45:55

Considering that this was taken with a smartphone, the exposure control here is perfect! Dealing with snowy highlights in a sunlight sky can be challenging and you've retained detail in all of these areas. Textures in wood and mountain are sharp and colors are vibrant. I do find that the "dragon" tends to merge with the mountains; shooting from a lower position would have lifted it up over the edge of the horizon. I agree with Beverly that darkening the background will make the "dragon" stand out more!   Posted: 01/14/2020 17:59:38

Nice image of the tree. I have seem some like that in CO but not as nice as this one with all the colors. I like the green trees in the background.   Posted: 01/20/2020 16:14:52
