Hi Herb, this is an interesting composition. Please tell us the story of how you discovered and shot it, plus your post processing, as I think I see some painting effect applied? Also, the depth of field is pretty good, so it would be interested to know the ISO, f-stop, and shutter speed. Thanks.   Posted: 10/09/2019 19:38:06

Shot was taken in Mystic Seaport during a Whaleing demonstration. I zoomed into 400mm f6.3 at 3000 of second. Iso 1000.
I use lightroom, Photoshop, Nik software and Topaz studio 2. I painted the distracting back ground using a texture in Topaz 2 and masked it.

Wow, talk about texture !! You really got a lot of texture with your editing. I think it works really well on the ropes and the background looks great -- I just think it's a little too much texture on the hand . But I do like it a lot, Thanks for giving us your recipe for post-processing.   Posted: 10/13/2019 03:48:40

This is definitely a study in textures. The applied texture effect complements the original textures in the image. Exposure is well-controlled and the background has no distractions. In addition, the hand and the dark ropes enter the scene on opposing diagonals, which adds dynamism to an otherwise static composition. Well-done!   Posted: 10/18/2019 14:15:13
