Tampa Harbor Dock by Christina Brittain

September 2019 - Tampa Harbor Dock

About the Image(s)

Nikon 500, Nikkor 50mm lens, f/1.4 lens, 1/640 @ f/8, ISO 100, O EV, A Priority, Center meter

Image was taken on a Photo group field trip to Tampa Harbor where we toured the docks in a Harbor Master boat.

This image came from a larger capture where I cropped to the pier posts, removed background distractions and converted to B/W. Some editing in LR and PS.

I think there are some nice leading lines in the image but all in all the image doesn't really do much for me. The subject just doesn't land over here. But that said, your exposure is great, and you caught lots of nice textures.
I'm wondering if taking the picture from a different angle, maybe putting a few people in the image, might have made it more interesting. Not sure.   Posted: 09/13/2019 19:39:23

Christina, you have captured some interesting repeating patterns and textures in this image. Your exposure is right on and I like the black and white conversion. You have composed this image well.   Posted: 09/13/2019 21:47:07

Donna, great suggestions. My challenge here were all the distractions around the main subjects, which necessitated tighter cropping than I would have preferred. Hence, the minimalist approach. I do agree that it doesn't tell much of a story. A great bird on one of the piers would have helped immensely. :-)   Posted: 09/20/2019 14:48:15

Thanks, Diana. I agree that the patterns and textures helped with this image. And BW was really the only choice. Thanks for your encouragement.   Posted: 09/20/2019 14:49:28

Nice diagonal and repeating patterns. Looks like there was quite a bit cropped out. Nice image though.   Posted: 09/23/2019 19:07:34
