River Nile Sunset by Mark Aksoy

September 2019 - River Nile Sunset

About the Image(s)

How I Did It - This image was taken during my trip to Egypt in 2018 from our boat cruising up the Nile River. It was one of those perfect sunset evenings! I used my Nikon D750 with Tamron 70-300mm lens and shot handheld at 300mm, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec and ISO 250. In LR, I adjusted exposure, clarity and vibrance, and in PS I cropped way in from left, right and bottom, then flipped the image horizontally.

I think the colors, your exposure, your point of view and composition are great. I think it would be interesting to see more cropped off at the bottom, increase the panoramic effect. Given that here it's on a black background, it's hard to tell where the picture ends and the background begins, maybe a very slight border around it might help but then again the background won't always be black. Very nice !   Posted: 09/13/2019 19:43:29

Mark, as a transplanted Floridian, it is hard to embrace sunsets with palms. :-) I do like the composition with the palm fronds reaching into the setting sun. I agree with Donna about need for a border to contain image within bounds. To my eye, it's a bit fuzzy, which may be caused by low res for posting, or perhaps camera shake on a moving boat. ISO and shutter speed look good for eliminating movement. Would like to see more of a story as you often tell in your travel images.   Posted: 09/20/2019 14:54:43

Great sunset with great colors and composition. I might have lightened up for foreground a bit.   Posted: 09/23/2019 19:10:14
