Jesse- Your first picture turned out beautiful with good details but you did not tell how did you do? The color of the background was your choice or it was already there. I think the color is dominating over the flower. Two lines at the bottom should be erased which takes your attention.

The color was part of a table cloth used to display the orchids.
The two black lines were part of the table cloth.
I agree that they are very distracting, leads the eye away from the pretty flowers.
I cloned the lines out.   Posted: 01/16/2020 02:17:15

Jesse- I forgot to ask you whether you used a tripod or handheld and what was your aperture and shutter speed if you remember.

Picture was taken by hand held as most places don't want people tripping over tripod legs. Thank you for your astute comments.

Wow Jesse, For a first attempt at flower photography you made a professional looking image. The composition is perfect. I like the diagonal form and the focus is right on. Kudos for hand holding. Personally I like the background color as it picks up the color of the orchid's center. I'm sure the lines being cloned out makes an image which is even better.   Posted: 01/16/2020 12:08:43

You made it look easy and I agree with cloning out the two lines. AND here is one time that adding a stroke to a photo worked!   Posted: 01/20/2020 13:34:12

You did a very good job of having the flowers in focus. The background compliments the flowers nicely. The only negative is the black lines.   Posted: 01/21/2020 19:11:51

I agree with the above. I'm not sure I like the background color although my wife and I didn't figure out a better color.   Posted: 01/23/2020 08:46:31

The flower is very colorful and sharp. I think the background should be toned down as it tends to dominate the image. Maybe just go in and brighten it up a tad so the color is not as dominating.   Posted: 01/27/2020 11:50:06
