Barn in the Palouse by John Larson, FPSA, MPSA2

January 2020 - Barn in the Palouse

About the Image(s)

We did not go with the PSA bus tour, but took our own trip to the Palouse during the PSA convention. I took this image of the barn and some of the small amount of grain that had not been harvested. I did the usual LR processing and then took the image into Silver Efex Pro until I found this Black and White treatment which I liked very much.

I like your black and white treatment! The undulating hills do make me think of Palouse and the barn is classic Americana. The photo almost is a perfect rule of thirds horizontally so I would crop a bit from the bottom to make it. Nicely done!   Posted: 01/20/2020 13:31:42

Very nice. I like the B&W choice you made in Silver Effects.
It's a fascinating area and you have made an appealing photo of it. I would like to return to the Palouse.   Posted: 01/20/2020 16:08:16

You did a good job bringing out the colors and texture of the image. I would like to see less foreground more sky and if it was possible more of the rolling hills to the right of the barns. I feel your barn is to centered in the image.   Posted: 01/21/2020 19:15:32

I think one of the things I like about the Paloose is the colors and shadows on the hills, therefore even though I like your B-W treatment< I would like it better in color.   Posted: 01/23/2020 08:41:29

I agree with the others, I would crop the foreground, more. Jesse   Posted: 01/24/2020 05:41:13

Hi John: Your barn image turned out beautiful with three tonal effects with excellent overall details. I never use LR and Silver Efex Pro but I am much impressive what you got.
