Big Guy by Jesse Lobel

October 2019 - Big Guy

About the Image(s)

was driving across Florida and saw this "BIG GUY"
sunbathing alongside a lake in town.
One of the largest I have ever seen.
Took it with a long lens and didn't get too close.

Nice gator! I would like to see more detail in the gator's skin brought out. Think if you darken down the water a bit that it would help keep attention on the gator. You should see some we have up here but have 'heard' there was one close to 15' at Circle B. Looks like a prehistoric beast.   Posted: 10/17/2019 08:33:36

Gator and background look pretty "shiney:. Maybe a polarizer would have helped. Maybe the lighten and darken sliders would have helped in camera raw.   Posted: 10/18/2019 10:57:48

Glad you stepped way, way back. Polarizer suggestion good but maybe next time. The focus is good but as Debbie commented, try bringing out more detail in the body of the gator.   Posted: 10/18/2019 11:41:30

jesse-You could also use the HDR technique to bring out details in shadow as John did in his shot. I use this HDR technique on my iPhone which works nicely. I hope your camera can do it for you. You can improve your image in Photoshop too but I am afraid you don't use it.

This is a great specimen and I hope you did not get too close. There are articles on how to simulate the polarizer filter in Photoshop and this would help reduce the glare. The idea of using HDR could also help.   Posted: 10/27/2019 08:11:36

It is a nice gator image. It would be a better composition if the subject was not so centered. Also the sunlight glare is a bit of a distraction. A polarizer would help or if possible repositioning your position.   Posted: 10/27/2019 15:17:40
