About the Image(s)

After Florida was "swiped" by Hurricane Dorian, I felt the need to check out Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. It is usually smashed by any hurricane that goes up the east coast. The wildlife drive was opened but not much in wildlife. I did spot this juvenile reddish egret hunting in the a wet area. Shot from my car, hand held with a Sigma 150-600mm.

I used bit of processing in LR and Topaz Studio 2. Cropped the original to yield this. Hope we are done with hurricanes for the year, Dorian was way too scary!

I had nine inches of water in my house five years ago, thanks to flood insurance was able to recover. Lost both cars.
Considering you shot this from your car , you were able to compose a nice image. I always joke about having more wildlife in the development where I live. Wood storks like it here and we have a man made island that is a bird sanctuary. I go out in a row boat during breeding season.
Nice image and eye pops out of the picture. well done. Jesse

Sorry to hear about the water damage and loss of property, never fun! Glad you have a bird sanctuary and wish there were more around, bet you get some great photos!   Posted: 10/17/2019 08:36:07

Just a small island which is a part of a large lake in the development where I live. Close by me are Wacoodahatchee and Green Cay which are water reclamation areas. Loaded with wild life, from a bobcat to alligators to birds, long boardwalks to walk too.In Delray Beach, on Hagen Ranch and Jog Road.   Posted: 10/17/2019 10:04:11

I like the colors, focus and placement of the bird. It does look a bit washed out though. Maybe darken a bit and increased saturation?? Nice shallow depth of field.   Posted: 10/18/2019 11:01:23

Fine focus as with all of your images. Again, nice to see the subject in it's environment. The egret is placed nicely in the frame. I only wish the reflection was complete. But never knowing the circumstances it may not have been possible.   Posted: 10/18/2019 12:40:33

Debbie- I go along with David comments for toning down the whole image a little bit. Otherwise, your image is perfect.Well done Debbie!

The bird is nicely sharp and the background nicely blurred. I would try working with curves etc. to get more separation of the bird from the background.   Posted: 10/27/2019 08:13:34

I feel that their may be too much negative space on the right of the image. Being that the bird and background have so much of the same colors I would have darken the background and lighten the bird a bit.   Posted: 10/27/2019 15:19:46
